British comics Chrismas cover issues

Many British comics traditionally have a special Christmas issue which was included stories of the main characters with a Christmas theme and had a cover with snow, santas, Christmas trees, etc. These have become very collectable. One nice thing about this is that obviously they are a year apart, so if you say collected all the Victor comic issues, you can see how a particular comic (Victor, Tiger, 2000AD, etc.) changed year after year.

Most comics were weekly and came out on a particualy day like Saturday or Monday, so most of the issues didn't fall on the 25th December. Some are dated before Christmas and some after. For example, The Victor had Christmas issues on 24 December in 1968 and 30 December in1972.

If you are looking for Christmas issues, then a good place to start is the ComicVine website Choose a range, such as Victor:

and then use the 'Reverse sort' option so that you can see all the covers in order. Then page through and look for issues around the 25 December. Hours of fun.

Some comics also missed some Christmas issues. For example, 2000AD had their first Christmas cover with issue/prog 44:

and then there was a printers strike in December 1978 and it went from prog 92 on 25 November to prog 93 on 30 December so there wasn't a Christmas cover that year.
